UKIP Lagan Valley's Brian Higginson has unreservedly condemned the perpetrators responsible for the viable explosive device found in Lisburn sorting office yesterday morning.
Speaking at the scene with Royal Mail employees and support staff, Mr Higginson said, “This is a throwback to the bad old days when indiscriminate bombs cost lives. Today the hard working and vigilant staff of Royal Mail prevented what I can only describe as a callous attempt at murder and maiming”.
He continued, “The kind of expertise behind these devices is something passed down from old hands to new, and I hope the PSNI can find enough forensic evidence to link this attack to those responsible and they face justice”.

We had a Very useful meeting this evening, as UKIP representatives from Lagan Valley and South Downe met to review recent changes to A&E provision at The Downe and Lagan Valley Hospital. The keys to solving the health service's problems are in the pockets of the Minister; but it's up to politicians of all hues to play their part in bringing forward constructive suggestions

REILLY CONFIRMED AS UKIP’S EUROPEAN CANDIDATE
The UK Independence Party (UKIP) has confirmed thatCouncillor Henry Reilly will be its candidate in Northern Ireland at next year’s European Elections.
Speaking after his candidature was confirmed by the party, Henry said, “I am delighted to have been selected as UKIP’s European candidate in Northern Ireland. With UKIP’s growing support across the province, I believewe have a real chance of winning a seat, in what is one of the most important elections in UK history. Living and working in Northern Ireland, I see daily how the EU is destroying industry, hampering entrepreneurship and decimating our agricultural and fishing communities. Ilook forward to having a mature debate on our membership of the EU during the campaign.”
Henry comes from a Co. Down farming family and is a currently a councillor for The Mournes on Newry & Mourne District Council. UKIP’s Northern Ireland Chairman, Henry was first elected to the council in 1989. In the 2011 local elections, Henry topped the poll with over 27% of the vote. Before becoming a councillor, Henry held a number of positions with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Henry’s candidature has been warmly welcomed by key UKIP figures, both nationally and locally:
Nigel Farage MEP, UKIP Party Leader
Nigel Farage MEP, UKIP’s Party Leader says, “I have become increasingly impressed by Henry since he joined the party back in 2007. I cant think of anyone who would be more suited to become an MEP, given his extensive knowledge of Northern Ireland – especially the fishing and farming industries that are being systematically destroyed by the EU.
“Henry will be an exceptional advocate for Northern Ireland until we extricate ourselves from the EU and run our own affairs. Henry is a man who has impressed all the senior Party Officers with his passionate and selfless commitment to the United Kingdom and especially to Northern Ireland and its people.
“Henry has built a considerable reputation as a public representative with a phenomenal work rate and a ‘dog with a bone’ attitude to getting issues sorted. We are absolutely confident he will make a great member of the growing UKIP team in Brussels. I respectfully ask the Northern Ireland public to support Henry and send a firm message that we are not content to have our country stolen from under us and that we want our freedom as a sovereign state and people.”
David McNarry, UKIP Northern Ireland Party Leader
David McNarry MLA says, “I was delighted to sign Henry’s nomination papers. Henry has proven beyond doubt that he is completely and entirely committed to serving the people of Northern Ireland and the entire United Kingdom.
“Henry gives people a ‘win win’ opportunity. He will not only fight tooth and nail for every penny that he can repatriate back to Northern Ireland from the EU, but as part of a large UKIP team in Brussels, Henry will work incessantly to liberate the UK from the bureaucratic and overbearing mess the EU has become. Having witnessedfirst hand the massive and increasing level of support for UKIP in Northern Ireland, I believe that with had work over the next 9 months, we can win a seat in Brussels. Along with his UKIP colleagues from across the UK, Henry will help to create the seismic shift in British politics that is so long overdue.”
Mr. Alan Love, UKIP Northern Ireland ViceChairperson
Alan says, “I have known and worked with Henry for some time. Henry is a hard worker, he’s lived and worked in the real world and will make an excellent MEP. Henry has a deserved reputation as someonecommitted to his constituents and he has proven himselfcapable of working for the benefit and betterment of everyone in Northern Ireland. By voting for Henry, the people of Northern Ireland can play their part in transforming local and national politics for the better.” Ends.

UKIP DEMANDS FULL INVESTIGATION INTO CASTLEDERG TERROR PARADE
UKIP Northern Ireland Chairman Cllr. Henry Reilly has called on the Parades Commission and the Chief Constable to undertake an immediate, full and thorough investigation into the terrorist parade, held today (Sunday 11 August, 2013) in Castlederg, Co. Tyrone.
Henry says, “First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims of terrorism in Castlederg and across Northern Ireland. We saw all too many images today of the suffering, which Sinn Fein and the Irish Republican movement has imposed upon the law abiding people of West Tyrone. I commend Derg Valley Victims Voice for the dignified, restrained and very powerful way in which they made their opposition to the parade known.”
Following today’s parade, Henry reviewed media footage of it and spoke with UKIP Members on the ground in Castlederg. Henry says, “It is clear there were multiple breeches of the Parades Commission’s determination. From the outset, organisers made no attempt whatsoever to comply with the requirement that no paramilitary trappings should be displayed. These were evident throughout the parade. Participants openly wore paramilitary uniforms, with images of terrorist assault weapons prominently displayed on accompanying banners.
“We are concerned too at the inaction of PSNI Officers in response to flagrant breaches of the Parades Commission determination. Their inaction contrasts starkly with the zealous and officious nature in which other parades across Northern Ireland are policed. The non-intervention of PSNI Officers in Castlederg, is all the more surprising, given we understand some participants may have been in breach of the Terrorism Act 2000.
“UKIP Northern Ireland is currently preparing a dossier of evidence which will be submitted shortly to the Parades Commission, the PSNI and the Police Ombudsman. It is clear the organisers of today’s parade must be held to account.
“Having failed the people of Northern Ireland repeatedly over the past few days, it is time for the Chief Constable to now deliver on his claim to deliver personal, professional and protective policing to everyone in Northern Ireland. If he is unable or unwilling to do so, Matt Baggott may wish to consider that the people of Northern Ireland might be better served by a different Chief Constable.”

NUTTALL CALLS FOR OUTRIGHT BAN ON TERRORIST PARADE
UKIP’s Deputy Leader, Paul Nuttall MEP, has challenged the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Theresa Villiers and Chief Constable, Matt Baggott, to ban Sunday’s planned IRA parade in Castlederg.
Paul says, “Sunday’s parade is deeply distressing to thousands of innocent victims and their families, who suffered so cruelly at the hands of IRA terrorists. In granting permission for Sunday’s celebration of terrorism, the Parades Commission has yet again sent out completely the wrong message. It is now up to the Chief Constable and the Secretary of State to step up to the plate and place an outright ban on this parade. Furthermore and despite the Secretary of State’s denials, UKIP understands Theresa Villiers does have the power to ban this wholly objectionable hatefest.
“The Castlederg parade commemorates 2 IRA terrorists who died when a bomb destined for a customs post outside the County Tyrone town exploded prematurely. Had the attack proven successful, the result would have been mass, indiscriminate slaughter. Whilst we would not wish to intrude upon any family’s private act of remembrance, we do believe it wholly inappropriate that the death of any terrorist should be commemorated in public.”
The MEP for the North West of England adds, “It is inconceivable that such a parade would be permitted anywhere else in the UK. For instance, do we really believe that the Mayor of London, Boris Johnston would allow Islamic extremists to parade through London to celebrate the 7/7 terrorist bombers who also died as a result of their own actions? I think not. It is therefore incumbent upon Matt Baggott and Theresa Villiers to do the right thing and ban Sunday’s IRA Parade. If isn’t good enough for the people of London, it shouldn’t be good enough for the people of Castlederg.
“UKIP representatives across Northern Ireland have been inundated with calls by people concerned at the damage this parade will do to community relations in Castlederg, West Tyrone and across Northern Ireland. It is increasingly clear that it isn’t just people from a Protestant or a Unionist background who stand united in their opposition to Sunday’s parade; this is an issue which resonates with many Catholics and Irish Nationalists, who all too frequently also suffered at the hands of the IRA and the Irish Republican movement.
“UKIP calls upon the Chief Constable and Secretary of State to address the Parades Commission’s failings, to doright thing and place an outright ban this parade. In so doing, they would send a welcome message that the glorification of terrorism and the radicalisation of Northern Ireland’s young people by convicted Irish Republican terrorists is entirely unacceptable. It would also ensure that an unhelpful, national precedent is not established, which could be exploited by other similarly extreme groups elsewhere in the UK.” Ends . I have been in contact with the electoral office today ref electoral registration evenings ,for a few areas that have contacted me to organise them , unfortunately they are suspended at present as there about to start a province wide electoral canvass , that will last for 4 weeks starting on the 24th August ,so when they come to your door make sure you fill in the form if your not already registered, and if they leave the form through your letterbox , please get them returned ASAP so that we can maximise the voting potential in your area, remember no vote , no voice , so make your voice heard by being a registered voter. Thank you Brian Higginson Vice Chaiman UKIP Lagan Valley Branch After reading Alex Kane's article on ukip leader nigel farage in Monday the 29th July newsletter, I thought I would pen a few words. Ukip leader nigel Farage is one one the most honest and down to earth politicians I have ever met, he tells things as they are and that's why everyone wants a piece if him , all media outlets want to talk with him , that is giving the perception that Ukip is a one man band , which couldn't be further from the truth , we have other great politicians in Ukip like Paul Nuttall, Godfrey bloom and Diane James, and locally in Ukip NI we have Ukip NI leader David McNarry MLA and Ukip NI chairman Clr Henry Reilly from kilkeel , these people are at the forefront of driving the Ukip message in NI . We as a party has seen membership rise in less than a year from around 80 to over 330 now , proof that Ukip policies resonate equally in NI as they do on the mainland, in NI we have established branches across the country with spokesmen across all areas , which means there are not just a few people at the forefront in NI .ukip NI is putting the people of NI at the heart of our policies , and will continue too do so , With candidates standing across NI at the next council DEA elections in 2014 and assembly in 2016 .I myself have Been interested in politics myself for many a year , and it was a meeting with Ukip NI chairman Henry Reilly that persuaded me to join Ukip , after reading there policies I was hooked as they say and have enjoyed playing an active role in setting up the Lagan valley branch of Ukip NI .and in early July I had the pleasure to finally meet Nigel Farage in Belfast at a meeting , and was amazed by his honesty and down to earth approach to people , as he set amongst us in the hotel lobby as if we were just there for a bit of Craic . Nigel will continue to grab the headlines and quite rightly so as he is the man of the moment , and he will be back in NI soon , so don't miss him if you hear he's back in Belfast Brian Higginson Vice/ chairman Ukip Lagan valley branch Ukip Ni culture spokesman. This is the letter UKIP has sent to the Parades Commission regarding the proposed IRA parade in Castlederg on the 11th Aug - please give the long suffering people of that area your support and write to the Parades commission [email protected] and demand that the parade is banned. From UK Independence Party ( Northern Ireland Region) To Northern Ireland Parades Commission Ref : Proposed IRA commemoration Parade 11th August 2013. Our office has received numerous complaints from people in the Castlederg/ West Tyrone area who are deeply concerned regarding the proposed West Tyrone Sinn Fein IRA Volunteer parade in Castlederg planned for 11th August 2013. The proposed parade is causing massive anxiety and distress to the Protestant/Unionist minority in the area who believe that this parade is designed to cause further hurt and pain and open old wounds given that the IRA continually attacked Castlederg. The IRA planted over 50 bombs in the town and killed 28 members of the Protestant community and wounded/injured many others who still try to manage the psychological and physical injuries that were inflicted on them by the IRA. It is therefore highly inappropriate, offensive and inflammatory for Sinn fein to propose that IRA bombers who died as a result of their own bomb are commemorated by a memorial parade through the town they tried to destroy. UKIP Northern Ireland respectfully requests that the proposed 11th August Castlederg parade is banned in the interest of community relations and in consideration of the Human rights of the Protestant community who have already suffered a disproportionately high level of attacks death and destruction even for Northern Ireland standards. Yours Sincerely Councillor Henry M Reilly Chairman UKIP Northern Ireland. |
